Are You a Transfer Applicant?
You are a transfer applicant if:
- You are a high school graduate/GED holder, and
- You will have completed at least 12 college credits after leaving high school, with a college transcript showing these courses and final grades submitted by the required due dates.
Current high school students taking college courses during high school should apply as first-year applicants, regardless of the number of college credits earned while in high school.

New Jersey Transfer Agreements
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, wants to help students like you move smoothly from one school to another. We have agreements with other colleges to make transferring easier for you. These agreements are checked by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education to make sure we’re doing things right.
On this page, you can find details about these agreements and how they work. Our goal is to support you in reaching your education and career goals with us here at Rutgers

How Decisions are Made
The number of students Rutgers can admit depends on the available space in each class and the overall quality of the applicant pool, which changes annually and varies by school. Decisions are based on a holistic review of each student but some determining factors include:
- Strength of academic program
- Grade trends
- Cumulative grade-point average (GPA)
- Number of credits completed
- English Proficiency Examination results, when required
- Personal essay
- Extracurricular activities, including community and volunteer work
- U.S. military service
- Honors, awards, and other achievements
- Employment history

Are you an EOF Student?
NJ Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) students that are transferring to Rutgers University should complete the EOF Transfer Application.
